Although a law was recently passed that allow consumers to buy contacts from retailers other than their eye care professional, they may think that they can get contact lenses without prescription.  If you find a retailer that will sell contact lenses without prescription, beware, as you could cause damage to your eyes if improperly using this vision correction device.

 

Even colored contacts, which can be worn at zero vision correction, are sometimes mistaken to be contact lenses without prescription.  Users who don’t have vision problems can wear colored contacts, but users must still be fitted by a professional to avoid wearing incorrectly shaped contacts.

 

If you are looking into purchasing a pair of novelty or colored contacts and you have 20/20 vision, don’t be lulled into getting your contact lenses without prescription.  Everyone’s eye shape is different, and if you are wearing lenses that are not the correct fit for your eye, you can cause damage to the cornea.  Improper use of contacts could scratch your eyes and even cause blindness.
